PLOT:
Here we meet Daisy and her "parents" Cassie and Mason. The book starts basically with Daisy dying. She is deathly allergic to bees, and that is what has caused her death this time. For the fifth time. She has spent the past three years in Frozen Hills, but since she died, and was "revived", her family has to move again. REVIVE is drug that is not yet FDA approved, so for now it is a secret government program, that Daisy, Mason, and Cassie are all a part of.
When Daisy moves, she embarks upon a new adventure, and swears to herself that she is not going to let "God" and Revive get in her way of accepting invitations and meeting people. All of her life Daisy has been fearful and not welcomed anyone into her life, worried that they will be too curious. This time, Audrey changes that.
Audrey is a wonderful character. She is warm, friends, quirky, and fun. The two seem to hit it off as friends, and Mason (Daisy's dad) does seem a bit worried. Her mother being stone-cold, is just worried about the "program", not about Daisy.
Throughout the book, we see Daisy's relationship with Mason and how they function. When tragedy strikes, when things go wrong, we seem them through so much! What at first seemed a bit, stoic and all business to me, bloomed into a beautiful relationship. It was truly amazing to watch and see how much Mason cares about Daisy.
After a while, we get to know a new character, Matt (HOTTIEE alert!), and we learn about his life, and where he ties in to this whole story (can't say much more!), just read it! Matt shows us what its like for Daisy to learn to care about a guy, which not even she knew was possible. This story line in particular, is done so beautifully, and not just mushy, but realistic and perfect. There is so much truth that goes into Cat Patrick's writing.
REVIEW:
Listen, I went into this book not having read previous reviews, just based off the plot and seeing it on some hauls. I wanted to know next to nothing when I started this one. And that was the best way I could have done it. I finished the book in a day and a half and I wish there was more for me to read!
The characters: Daisy, Mason, Cassie, Megan, "God", Audrey, Matt... I loved ALMOST all of them. They all felt so real to me, and the relationships they shared with Daisy were so crucial to the plot. I also loved that Cat Patrick included a transgender character. It didn't feel forced, or out of place either. It was just right.
Audrey was such a crucial character tin this book, because to me, she taught Daisy how to love. Although this was in the form of a friend, she was able to bring her out of her shell and introduce her to the life that she could have had many years ago.
The story was never dry, or boring. I just kept on turning the pages! It was amaazzzzing. I loved Patrick's writing style, and I ESPECIALLY loved the turning points, and unseen events! They made the story so much more interesting! (obviously , not going into those!)
ALL IN ALL, this book was really great, And I already picked up FORGOTTEN by Cat Patrick as well. I just can't get enough!
Obviously, this book got-
Five coffee cups :)
