In this weeks thought we discuss DNF-ing.

sOOooo.. after devouring GONE GIRL, and Just One Day, and Up To Me, I had intended on reading The Book Thief. However, I feel it is NOT agreeing with me. And I almost want to blame myself. I feel we all do that. And I am one to DNF books if I feel I can not get through them. [For those who do not know, DNF= do not finish]. But to me, I'd rather cut my losses than suffer through a miserable reading experience. I love reading, and I would like to keep it that way. So I give EVERY book a fair chance [about 100 pages] and then I make my decision.

But, THIS is a book I want to read, just not right now. Have any of you had this happen? And you have to move onto something else? How do you determine what you want to move onto? What do you think about putting books down?

Do you have any suggestions, such as just powering through? Have you had any DNF-ing issues? Sometimes I experience genre slumps as well, where I can't get out of one genre, and then I need a .. what I call breather book. Breather books tend to be novellas, or quick reads, or even a series book that I'd been meaning to get to.

Happily ever after doesn’t come easy. But for love, it’s always worth the fight.

Olivia finds bliss unlike any she’s ever known in Cash’s arms. He sets her skin on fire and melts her heart right inside her chest. Unfortunately, their happily ever after is short-lived when a shadow from Cash’s past threatens to turn their world upside down.

Dangerous people from his father’s world have discovered that Cash holds information that could put them away for a very long time. And they’re willing to do anything—and hurt anybody—to get it back. Giving it up means Cash must choose between the life of his father and the life of Olivia.

Having nearly overcome her wariness of bad boys, Olivia’s trust is shaken when this new threat arises. Now she finds that Cash is not only a danger to her heart, but his family has associations that are a danger to her life as well. She soon discovers that there are some situations in life where trust is a girl’s only option. And this is one of them. If she’s to live, she must trust Cash with her life. But to Olivia, that’s much, much easier than letting go and trusting him with her heart.

Disclaimer: This book is a sequel. If you haven't read Down To You, read that before reading this. This review is spoiler free for book TWO but not for book one!

Let Me Start Off...

I have read MANY new adult books at this point, and there are two series that I love more than life. The Bad Boys Series, and the Avoiding Series. Each leaves me in such a stupor when I'm done its like.. a book hangover. This book, no exception. Michelle has done it again. Okay.. on with the review.

So Basically...

Since we all know what happened LAST time, and the surprises of the double life, and the lies, that is where we pick up here. We pick up with Olivia and Cash totally into each other, but having some issues. Can you blame the girl, though? He lied to her from day one, I can't say I don't understand not trusting Cash entirely. But, we come full circle and we meet again with Marissa, who.. lets just say, shocks me in this book. We knew some drama was about to unfold from the ending of Down To You, but what ACTUALLY happened was like.. damn. I can't exactly explain how Michelle does it, but she actually incorporated a decent amount of crime into a new adult novel. And as a crime junkie, I LOVED that fact! It was super awesome. The book takes you on travels that you don't expect, we meet some new characters, whom you will LIKELY love to hate, just like I did. And we are left with yet another ending that made me want to cringe.

What'd Ya Think?

Is it shocking that I loved it? Just as much as book one, if not more. The surprises are what kept me so in love with this book, and the sexy scenes of course, with CASH will neverrrr hurt! But I loved that it almost seemed like this book was set up for you, but then CRASH BOOM BANG, uh no. There are twists and turns that do not disappoint and are every bit as epic as the first book!

Could Alex and Lola work? Could Alex handle Lola's independence and style? Could Lola handle Alex's rebellious streak against what the government states is the right thing to do? Or would it all be too much?

My opinion?
I think it may be a nice little fling for these two. But after a while their arguments over what matters would drive them apart. Lola is more a foot loose and fancy free kinda gal, and Alex is a bit more serious. He's all about love and everything, but when it comes time to get serious, he needs the kind of girl that he may not think Lola is. And Lola, she may want someone who is more adventurous in other ways. Not like, defying actual government regulations kinda ways.

What do you think? Have you read both these books? Would Lola and Alex make it?

One of the most critically acclaimed suspense writers of our time, New York Times bestseller Gillian Flynn takes that statement to its darkest place in this unputdownable masterpiece about a marriage gone terribly, terribly wrong. The Chicago Tribune proclaimed that her work “draws you in and keeps you reading with the force of a pure but nasty addiction.” Gone Girl’s toxic mix of sharp-edged wit and deliciously chilling prose creates a nerve-fraying thriller that confounds you at every turn.
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?

As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister, Margo, at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn’t do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?

With her razor-sharp writing and trademark psychological insight, Gillian Flynn delivers a fast-paced, devilishly dark, and ingeniously plotted thriller that confirms her status as one of the hottest writers around

Let's just say that, when a book is hyped up as much as this one, I get nervous it will fail me. This one right here, DESERVED the hype, the awards, the rave reviews. A twist at every corner, a book that will keep you guessing til the very last page. This is one in which you finish and you just sit there, almost startled, and thinking about it for a while. There isn't a book I can remember reading in recent times that kept me wanting to devour it more. And MIND YOU I have read some five star reads lately! But thrillers are different, they take you to a place where many people's minds don't often travel. I also think anyone who enjoys psychology, especially the psychology that goes into a relationship, will absolutely crave this one. [ahem, yes, i was a psych major]. Don't let the reviews scare you away, this is one that you need in your life. A palette cleanser from contemporary, or romance, or holiday reads. This author is now on my watch list. For life.

Quick Comment: If ever you've had a dilemma with how to feel about characters, especially main characters, this is it. Nick and Amy are each likeable to a point, and hate-able to a point. You'll see.

Recommended For: Thriller readers. Those needing something different. Those who love a good mind-fuck. [pardon my french] Fans of: Lee Child, James Patterson, Harlen Coben

Let's get one thing straight, this was a THURSDAY thing. But today, its a Monday thing.

Got a problem with it? No? I didn't think so!

The Thought: The E-Reader Debate. Why the hate?

Maybe I'm seeing it more now that I'm more involved in the book-blog-o-sphere, or MAYBE its that I work part-time at a bookstore where people unleash their opinions on you unexpectedly. Regardless, the issue is there, and I can't seem to get why.

Can any of YOU tell me what it is that people have against e-readers? Listen, I also need a good BOOK every now and then. But, if I can carry thousands of books on one device rather than break my back trying to lug around a monster like Evolution of Mara Dyer, or The Diviners, I'm gonna download the ebook.

So, all I wanna know, is who uses an e-reader AND reads physical copies? Who ONLY uses an e-reader, and who ONLY reads physical copies? And can you tell me why? I just would like to hear from all of you regarding this issue! And taking it one step further...

Have you met those people that actually hold it against those who use e-readers? Because recently I have. And I mean really? How can you hate on something that is just a matter of preference? Plus, e-books are cheaper than buying actual books [for the most part] so its definitely a money saver. And with the $79 Kindle Paper White and $79 Nook Simple Touch, they're pretty decently priced now-a-day. Not like when they first came out for like $400.00! That was crazy! But yet, they still sold! So, I'd like to hear as usual, from you guys! Let me know.. what do you prefer?

Summary:
The thing about the above synopsis is that it DOES tell you the plot, yet it totally does NOT do this book justice. Unfortunately, I don't want to spoil anything for you guys. So all I am going to say that this is a story of appreciation of life, in all its forms and meanings. Sky is a girl who thinks she has it all figured out, and her best friend Six is right there next to her at all times, until she isn't.. Sky is luckily able to find another awesomely-awesome totally witty best friend, Breckin. As per USUAL, Hoover's secondary characters are top notch, and I can promise you that you will be wanting some more Breckin in your life! He's so animated and so perfectly matched with Sky, its just great. Anywayyy, (sorry, total Breckin obsession).. we bring Holder into the picture [the deliciously delicious specimen] and Sky is in for a rude awakening. Everything she thinks she knows about life and love, is about to be turned UPSIDE DOWN by Holder. And so the storyline continues.. *I'm sorry I can't give you more, but I just.. can't. You need to experience this on your own, guys!*

Review:
OH MY FREAKIN GOD. Number one, I can't believe that it is possible for me to love characters as much as I loved in Slammed and Point of Retreat. But honestly.. guys. I just did. I had to relax for a little after completing this book. It was just so beautiful and poignant and perfect. I can't even think of anything that I didn't like. There were things that I had figured out shortly before I was told, but that always happens. And then there were the THINGS that I was like, "OH NO WAY! No, no, let me re-read that to make sure..". Seriously. This book. Just.. this book. Sky and Holder captivate you from the first page, and they will not let you out of their grasp until you finish. Its too good. The thing is, Colleen Hoover knows exactly how to tie together a pretty little book just right every SINGLE time. The woman writes like she's written forty books before, not three. Its mind boggling how good this book is. Its just.. Love. This book IS love. I don't live it, I love it. [You'll understand that part when you read the book]. AND for the amazing price of $3.99, I mean, you CAN'T pass this up, and if you do, you'll have ME to deal with!
Anyone with a pulse. Any fan of Slammed, Pushing the Limits, or My Life Next Door. I finished this and OFFICIALLY named Colleen my FAVORITE author. There's no one that competes with her anymore. There just isn't. First she gave me Will and Lake, and now she brings me Sky and Holder. She can't be topped! The woman is unstoppable.

I read and loved this book. Seriously, if you haven't read it, it is AMAZING. I have the sequel (however, I don't like the cover as much)

This cover is so representative of the story, which is SO unique in so many ways.

Yes please! That will be all. This is ALREADY released on Amazon, and is coming for the Kobo and Nook sometime in the next few days! I just adore the Hopeless fading throughout the cover. Plus the girl on the cover is super pretty. (Jealous!)

The "eh" cover of the week?

Lots of people like this one. And I have heard GREAT things about the book, but I just don't like that the huge pink font takes away from the rest of the cover! (Maybe its my aversion to pink..hmmm..) Regardless, This one IS on my TBR and has great reviews!

So as always, we should have learned! Don't judge a book by its cover!

One Good Hustle
by: Billie Livingston
Received: From the author
The child of 2 con artists, 16-year-old Sammie Bell always prided herself on knowing the score. But now she finds herself backed into a corner. After a hustle gone dangerously wrong, her mother, Marlene, is sliding into an abyss of alcoholic depression, spending her days fantasizing aloud about death--a goal Sammie is tempted to help her accomplish. Horrified by the appeal of this, Sammie packs a bag and leaves her mother to her own devices.

With her father missing in action, she has nowhere else to go but the home of a friend with 2 parents who seem to actually love their daughter and each other--and who awkwardly try to extend some semblance of family to Sammie. Throughout a long summer of crisis among the normals, Sammie is torn between her longing for the approval of the con-man father she was named for and her desire for the "weird, spearmint-fresh feeling" of life in the straight world. Sammie wants to be normal but fears that where she comes from makes that beyond the realm of possibility.
So, as someone who has a huge liking for stories of an underdog, I had to read this. I love stories where the girl/guy has it rough, and has to rise above the BS that surrounds them. This literally, described Sammie's life to a T.

Sammie is raised by a hustler father and an alcoholic mother. Cool life, right? Uh, no. Poor Sammie just wants nothing more than to leave the shadows of her parents behind, but with a co-dependent mother.. this is way harder than it seems. The life Sammie has been accustomed to, also seems to make her more closed off to real friendships, and even to love. She has never really experienced what LOVE is, even from her parents. This story chronicles her journey to what she hopes to be a normal life, and we get to see everything she encounters along the way.

Review:

I loved this. Not because it was sent to me by Billie Livingston herself, not because Billie is WAY awesome, but just BECAUSE. This is a book that I didn't want to end, because I just wanted to keep following Sammie's story. I literally would LOVE a story of Sammie later in life, and may have to try my hardest to convince Billie to write that book! [hehe]. But Sammie is just one of those characters. You become attached to her, and feel for her. And even at times want to shake her and be like "girl, snap back to reality!". But, the story ended where it did and... yeah. I can't say more because that would be giving things away, and I'm simply not going to do that! This book was a five star read for me. I adored it, and that was mostly because of the writing and the main character. The hustles were pretty freakin' great too! I loved reading about cons and schemes and everything in that world, it was new to me, and I happen to know that Billie got one of the ideas from a real life NY hustler. [way cool!].

Who Should Read This?:

So, I reccommend this book to anyone who likes to watch someone who had it rough, grow up, and try to make it on their own. And also to anyone who likes to fall in love with the main character. 'Cause, its an awesome read, and I can't wait for more by Billie!

Two years after her best friend was involved in a car accident that caused a traumatic brain injury, Lottie Anders is ready to start her freshman year of college. Ready to move on. Ready to try and forget the night that ripped her life apart.

Her plans come to a screeching halt when not one, but both brothers responsible for the accident end up back in her life again.

Zack is cruel, selfish and constantly rubbing what happened to her friend in Lottie's face.

Zan is different. He listens to her awkward ramblings. His words are few and far between, but when he does speak, she can't help but listen. He loves "To Kill a Mockingbird" as much as she does, and his dark eyes are irresistible.

The trouble is, Zan was the driver in the accident, and now Lottie's discovered he lied to her about what happened that night. She must decide if trusting him again will lead to real forgiveness, or deeper heartache.
When not writing, she enjoys watching infomercials, singing in the car and tweeting. Sam is perfectly happy being a player. He just wishes girls wouldn’t change the game from sex to relationships. It makes him look like an asshole. But when Sam’s best friend, Ally Klinger, gets dumped, she begs him to transform her into someone who can screw around then screw off. No risk of heartbreak that way. It’s Sam’s chance to create the perfect female AND cheer up his best friend. Armed with Sam’s Three Step Guide to Backseat Success, Ally gets the game better than Sam thought she would and before long, Sam has his wish: the female version of himself. Too bad it’s driving him nuts. Told from Sam’s and Ally's alternating POVs, Sam Cruz’s Infallible Guide to Getting Girls is a fast-paced romantic comedy that follows these teens as they navigate the minefield of sex, love, and friendship.

A Quick Rundown:
This book very easily could have been a romantic comedy movie released for all us teens and adults alike who want to fall in love with the player and root for the couple that is the underdog. Sam and Ally have been best friends for like, ever. She's never been the pretty girl, but suddenly she finds herself feeling like she needs to change a bit (can we say EVERY rom-com ever?, starting with Grease) to impress the opposite sex. Enter Sam, the bffae-aeaeaeae to give her a magical makeover that makes her some sort of Goddess. [Who knew makeup and wardrobe could change a person?] What happens next is to NEVER be expected... (sarcasm, ladies and gents!)

Review:
Its not that I didn't like this book, because I did. It was a light read, and it was cute. Nothing intense, nothing unpredictable. I would have preferred some unforseen moments, however. Meaning.. I would like not to be able to write my books myself due to the cliche romantic comedy stereotype. Sam and Ally were great characters, and each had a sassy little attitude and personality about them that were unique and quirky. I loved the "rules" that Sam had, and how he pretends to be a little hardass, but in reality.. the kid has a heart. Ally was just adorable, I felt she could be my little sister that I had to help through the hard times and pressures of high school.

Who Should Read This?
Anyone looking for a light, quick, fast-paced read should give this book a shot. It is definitely cute, and for sure an easy read. The characters are loveable, the only issue I had was for the younger audience (15 and below) this book definitely had some sexual moments that may not be appropriate. Therefore, I would advise that you should be at least sixteen to dive into this one. Tellulah Darling definitely has potential as an author, and I would not hesitate to pick up something else from her in the future! My biggest gripe with the book - like I stated before was the predictability. But, still a cute, light-hearted read!

-Because I received this book for review, I wasn't aware of the WAY awesome price! For both Nook and Kindle the book is only $3.99! A bargain for sure, so definitely makes it even more appealing!-

Point of Retreat : Colleen Hoover
This book was seriously amazing. The first in the series, Slammed is definitely a MUST read. And this one, while the cover looks simple, it has much significance! So.. give it a shot!

Ah, Gayle Forman! You slay me. This is just perfect. Its so mysteriously gorgeous and leaves you wanting to know every emotion going on through this lovely girl's head! I can't WAIT for this to come out in JANUARY! Ever since I finished Where She Went months and months ago, I've been missing Adam and Mia! And now I get a whole new story with all new romance!

1- The Art of Racing in the Rain: Garth Stein
This book showed me how to feel for a dog that wasn't my own, and how to care for characters more than any other book has been able to. I am going to forever recommend this book to anyone with a heart.

2-The Outsiders: S.E. Hinton
For being the best book EVER - in eighth grade, and now! This book has stood the test of time. Just like Ponyboy and Dallas. And if you haven't read it? Don't talk to me.

3-The Green Mile: Stephen King
Don't ask questions. Just read it. This book is amazing, and it shows you a side of life you will never (hopefully) see otherwise. Life on Death Row. Its so, so, so, amazing. And written by the King of Horror. Can't go wrong.

4-Delirium: Lauren Oliver

For showing me life after The Hunger Games. Oliver showed me that I COULD love another series as much as The Hunger Games! I love this series and CANT WAIT for its conclusion in 2013!

5-Slammed: Colleen Hoover
What's that? I haven't talked about this book enough? Okay, good! I didn't think so either! ;-) Slammed is one of those books that stays with you, and leaves you thinking about how it made you feel. It is just.. EPIC.

6-Where She Went: Gayle Forman
For beautiful writing, amazing characters and keeping me on the edge of my seat. I love Gayle Forman OH SO MUCH. She truly has a beautiful way with words.

7-The Kite Runner: Khaled Houssini
Seriously, this book is a masterpiece. I thought I'd hate it. I put off reading it. I tried to avoid it. But I had to do it. And boy am I glad I did! This is a must read, and I truly believe I will never read anything like it ever again.

8-The Maze Runner: James Dashner
This book is unlike any other dystopian I have touched. The world building is truly phenomenal. However, this book is on the list for a more important reason! It is what made me want to start blogging! So in essence, it brought me to you guys! :-)

That's it for this edition! I'm not putting ten, cuz well.. I never do. And I'm in a bit of a rush today! I hope you all have a GREAT Thanksgiving! Don't forget some wine, and your sweatpants for after the feast!
On a seemingly ordinary Saturday in a California suburb, Julia and her family awake to discover, along with the rest of the world, that the rotation of the earth has suddenly begun to slow. The days and nights grow longer and longer, gravity is affected, the environment is thrown into disarray. Yet as she struggles to navigate an ever-shifting landscape, Julia is also coping with the normal disasters of everyday life—the fissures in her parents’ marriage, the loss of old friends, the hopeful anguish of first love, the bizarre behavior of her grandfather who, convinced of a government conspiracy, spends his days obsessively cataloging his possessions. As Julia adjusts to the new normal, the slowing inexorably continues
The Second Civil War was fought over reproductive rights. The chilling resolution: Life is inviolable from the moment of conception until age thirteen. Between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, however, parents can have their child "unwound," whereby all of the child's organs are transplanted into different donors, so life doesn't technically end. Connor is too difficult for his parents to control. Risa, a ward of the state is not enough to be kept alive. And Lev is a tithe, a child conceived and raised to be unwound. Together, they may have a chance to escape and to survive.
